What Is Sodium Lactate?
Sodium lactate is a chemical substance with a molecular formula of C3H503Na. Molecular weight 112.06, colorless or almost colorless transparent liquid, used in food, beverages, meat and poultry food processing.

Sodium lactate has antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. It is used as a food additive as a safe organic preservative for fish, sausage, etc. Sodium lactate is a naturally occurring humectant that is an extremely effective moisturizer. It could be used in cosmetics, such as aftershave lotion. Sodium lactate is also advocated in the treatment of bradyeardia and asystole associated with complete heart block.

Sodium lactate can effectively inhibit and kill many Gram bacteria that cause food spoilage, such as Listeria, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium botulinum and spoilage microorganisms, and its antiseptic effect is very obvious. Uses of Sodium Lactate:

What Does Sodium Lactate Do in Soap?
The hardest part of making cold process soap is the time it takes to get out of the mold and see the finished product. Fortunately, there is an easy way to shorten the time. Sodium lactate is a liquid salt that can be added to the cooled lye to speed up the demolding time. Using sodium lactate can also produce a harder, longer-lasting, and durable cold process soap.
Directions: When making cold process soap, add sodium lactate to the cooled lye. (The lye and water can reach a high temperature of 93 degrees when mixed. It is recommended to wait until the lye reaches a temperature of 54 degrees or lower when making soap.) Once the lye reaches the optimal soapmaking temperature, you can add the sodium lactate.
Dosage: The use rate of sodium lactate is 1 teaspoon per pound of oil (about 8.5 grams of sodium lactate in 453 grams of oil, that is: 2%). Measure the sodium lactate and stir it into the cooled lye. Be careful not to use too much; using too much sodium lactate will produce a hard, brittle soap.

1. The pH value of soap is usually between 8-10, while the natural pH value of human skin is about 4.5-5.5. Sodium lactate can make soap milder and will not irritate the skin.
2. Sodium lactate can also make soap easier to foam and make soap easier to rinse without leaving residue.
