Description

What is Erythritol?
Erythritol is used in the development of new zero calorie and low calorie beverages. Erythritol can increase the sweetness, thickness and lubrication of the drink, reduce the bitterness, cover up other smells and improve the flavor of the drink. Erythritol is a natural sweetener that is widely distributed in nature and is found in melons, grapes, peaches, pears, seaweed, mushrooms, etc. The sweetness of erythritol is 60%-80% of that of sucrose. It has a pure sweetness and a cool taste. Industrial production is mostly made by fermentation.

USAGE/APPLICATION:
Erythritol is a naturally-derived sugar substitute that looks and tastes very much like sugar, yet has almost no calories. It comes in granulated and powdered forms. Erythritol has been used in Japan since 1990 in candies, chocolate, yogurt, fillings, jellies, jams, beverages, and as a sugar substitute.

What is Erythritol Made From?
How is erythritol (also called sorbitol) made in the factory?
Preparing glucose: Glucose usually comes from starch or glucose syrup. First, the glucose needs to be treated to make it purer so that it can be used for the next reaction.
Chemical reaction: The treated glucose is dissolved in water, and then at a certain temperature and pressure, a catalyst (like a special "helper") is used to add hydrogen to undergo a reaction called hydrogenation. In this process, a part of the glucose is converted into erythritol by hydrogen.
Extraction and purification: After the reaction is over, erythritol must be extracted from the mixture. Erythritol is usually purified by distillation, crystallization, filtration, etc.
The entire production process requires strict control of temperature, pressure and the use of catalysts to ensure high yields and good product quality. Erythritol can also be found in some natural foods, such as peaches, apples, pears and watermelons.

Erythritol VS Stevia
Erythritol and stevia are both low-calorie sweeteners that are often used in foods and beverages to replace sucrose. They have some similarities and some differences.
Similarities:
1. Low calories: Erythritol and stevia are both things that make food sweet but have very low calories. Suitable for those who want to control their weight or have diabetes.
2. No impact on blood sugar: Neither will cause a sharp rise in blood sugar levels, suitable for people with diabetes or who need to control blood sugar.
3. No tooth decay: Neither will cause tooth decay because oral bacteria cannot use them to produce acid, which corrodes teeth.
Differences
1. Source: Erythritol is a synthetic sweetener, while stevia is a natural sweetener extracted from the stevia plant.
2. Sweetness: Stevia is much sweeter than sucrose, about 200-300 times sweeter, while erythritol is only about 70% as sweet as sucrose.
3. Digestion and absorption: Erythritol is absorbed less in the body, so it has less impact on blood sugar, but if you eat too much, it may cause stomach discomfort; stevia is almost not absorbed by the body, so it will not provide energy or cause stomach discomfort.

Is Erythritol Safe?
Erythritol, also known as Erythritol, is a polyhydroxy alcohol that is similar to glucose, but it has a very low calorie content. This makes it a popular low-calorie sweetener for those who need to control their sugar intake. Erythritol is quickly absorbed in the body and mostly excreted in the urine, so it has a low impact on blood sugar and insulin levels.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists erythritol as a "generally recognized as safe" food additive.
Although erythritol is considered relatively safe, it may cause some digestive discomfort such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating when consumed in large quantities. This is because it is not fully absorbed in the intestines and may cause water to enter the intestines through osmosis. Generally speaking, it is safe to consume no more than 1 gram of body weight per day.
